The Indiana Library Passport, a creative digital experience that encourages everyone to visit libraries across the Hoosier state, is open to Indiana residents and outside visitors alike. The passport has more than 170 libraries and branches to explore.

Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library offering Book-A-Librarian service |
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library is offering a new Book-A-Librarian service. Patrons can now schedule a personalized appointment with Teen and Adult Services staff at the Zionsville branch of the library.
"Have a question about how to use your tablet or how to use various computer programs? Book-A-Librarian. Need help finding sources for a research project? Book-A-Librarian. Looking for your next big read? Book-A-Librarian," the library said in a statement.
The service is intended for more in-depth assistance than can be provided with a quick phone call or stopping at the reference desk. It will provide the patron uninterrupted assistance from library staff so that no one feels rushed through the process. The appointments can be conducted by phone, online or in person.
Those interested should complete the Book-A-Librarian form. Patrons will then be contacted by a member of staff to schedule a one-on-one appointment.

| Centerville-Center Township Public Library seeking mural artist |
The Centerville-Center Township Public Library is seeking an individual artist - or a team of artists - to submit a request for proposal to install a mural inside of the library.
The placement of the mural at the entrance of the lobby will enhance the library’s first-ever renovations, which are currently underway and expected to be completed by the end of spring this year.
Interested artists must be over 18 years old, have general liability insurance and be able to showcase substantial experience with large-scale mural installation. Preference will be given to artists who live in Wayne County, or who can demonstrate ties to the area.
The budget for the mural is $10,000. The money will be used for labor, materials, equipment and travel. Mural installation will begin Monday, Feb. 16, and should be completed by Tuesday, March 31.

North Manchester Public Library receives Indiana Arts Commission grant |
The North Manchester Public Library has been awarded a $4,000 Arts Project Support Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission to expand access to high-quality music education for young children.
The Arts Project Support Grant provides funding to nonprofits, government units and schools for specific arts initiatives, with the goal of ensuring Indiana’s people and communities have access to meaningful arts experiences.
Funding from this grant will support eight weeks of Music Together classes for three separate cohorts of young children and their caregivers. Music Together is a nationally recognized early childhood music and movement program designed for children from birth through early elementary years.
Music Together helps children of all ages - babies, toddlers and preschoolers - discover their inner music-maker by playing with the grownups they love. These music and movement classes also support overall early childhood development, strengthening language, cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills. Research shows that music learning for young children builds neural connections that enhance a child’s disposition to learn.
Music Together classes will begin Monday, Feb. 2, at the North Manchester Public Library. Caregivers can register their children for the 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. time slots by calling the library at 260-982-4773.

Indiana State Library welcomes newest hosted digital collection |
The Indiana State Library hosts many digital collections beyond its own collections. The items come from libraries, museums and historical societies across Indiana and can be searched in Indiana Memory.
One of the newest collections is “Cornerstone of Columbus, Indiana -- 301 Washington Street.”
A late-19th century brick building adorned with the words Irwin’s Bank, located at 301 Washington St. in Columbus, tells the story of the Irwin-Sweeney-Miller family in Bartholomew County. For the last 200 years, the Irwin-Sweeney-Miller family has contributed to shaping Columbus with much involvement in the city’s business, religion, politics, art and philanthropy.
Beginning as a digital exhibit in 2017, the new collection was created by the Columbus Indiana Architectural Archives (CIAA). In 2018, the CIAA became part of the Bartholomew County Public Library.
The digital exhibit and the digital collection have more than 300 items, which are held by the CIAA, the Bartholomew County Public Library and the Bartholomew County Historical Society. Included in the collections are photographs featuring the Irwin-Sweeney-Miller family and the interior and exterior of the building; postcards of Columbus; material sample cards; pamphlets; documents relating to the building’s history; ephemera; and artifacts. They all tell the story of an important Columbus family and building. |
Northeast Document Conservation Center offering preservation workshops |
The Northeast Document Conservation Center, a nonprofit preserving cultural collections nationwide, is now offering online preservation training and workshops.
"Fundamentals of Photograph Preservation" will take place between Monday, Jan. 26, and Monday, March 9. The six-session course offers an in-depth introduction to the preservation of photographs, including their identification, deterioration and care. Click here to register. The cost of the course is $425.
"Preservation 101" is an interactive course designed to introduce preservation topics, such as environmental management, deterioration of materials, emergency preparedness and preservation of paper-based, audiovisual and digital formats. The course will take place between Thursday, Jan. 29, and Thursday, April 16. Click here to register. The cost of the course is $695.
Registration includes six months of access to the course recordings. Student rates are available.
The courses are eligible for LEUs for Indiana library staff. |
