The Indiana Library Passport, a creative digital experience that encourages everyone to visit libraries across the Hoosier state, is open to Indiana residents and outside visitors alike. The passport has more than 170 libraries and branches to explore.

Roundtable informational interest meeting scheduled |
On Thursday, Aug. 6, from 11-11:45 a.m., the Indiana State Library will host a virtual roundtable informational interest meeting.
Roundtables are informal opportunities for those who do similar jobs to gather together to share ideas, crowdsource solutions and celebrate one another's successes. The interest meeting is an opportunity for those interested in forming a roundtable to learn more about what it takes to start one.
Beth Yates, children’s consultant in the Professional Development Office at the Indiana State Library, will share advice and best practices on starting roundtables. Yates will be joined by other members of the Professional Development Office.
Anyone working in an Indiana library who is interested in starting or participating in a roundtable is welcome to attend, including staff from youth services, adult services, circulation, cataloging and marketing. Participants are encouraged to bring questions about starting and managing roundtables. Existing roundtable leaders are also invited to attend and to share information about their meetings.
The meeting is eligible for one roundtable LEU for Indiana library staff. Read more and register here.

Nominations now being accepted for Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Foundation Art Awards |
The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) Foundation is now accepting nominations for this fall’s Art Awards, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the arts in Southwestern Indiana.
The awards will honor individuals, groups, businesses, projects and institutions, and will be presented at the EVPL Foundation’s "In The Stacks" event on Friday, Nov. 13. Finalists in each category will be announced in advance and will receive two free tickets to the event. Mayor Stephanie Terry will be in attendance to present the prestigious Mayor’s Art Award, which recognizes far-reaching contributions to the arts in the community.
“In our first year as the Regional Arts Partner, the EVPL Foundation is delighted to continue the tradition of the Art Awards,” said Heather Kelsey, chief operating officer at EVPL. “These awards not only acknowledge current contributors to the arts, but also inspire new artists to design, create, write or perform new works for the benefit of all.”
The nomination form is available here. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, Aug. 14, in the following categories: Mayor’s Art Award, Visual Art Award, Performing Art Award, Literary Art Award, Culinary Art Award, Young Artist Award, Art Educator Award and Art Project Award.

| Indianapolis Public Library schedules history of Riley Hospital program |
On Sunday, July 26, from 2-3:30 p.m., the Indianapolis Public Library will host "Heart of the Heartland - Riley Hospital for Children."
The in-person lecture will explore the history of Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Presenter Lois DeHoff will examine how philanthropy - rooted in Hoosier values and a shared commitment to caring for children - has shaped the hospital's mission and growth. She will also highlight how sustained community support has built a lasting legacy and fueled innovations that continue to advance children’s health and improve outcomes across Indiana and beyond.
DeHoff is former Indiana public school educator and current instructional librarian at Ivy Tech Community College where she is dedicated to exploring and sharing local Indianapolis history in ways that strengthen community connections.
The program is part of the Expanding Our Story programs hosted by the Indianapolis Special Collections Room and is eligible for one non-library-related LEU. The program will be held in the Indianapolis Special Collections Room on the sixth floor of the Central Library, located at 40 E. St. Clair St. in downtown Indianapolis.

Fall Federal Depository Library Conference announced |
Registration is now open for the fall Federal Depository Library (FDL) Conference
. The conference will be held virtually on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Wednesday, Sept. 23. A pre-conference event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16. This year’s keynote speaker will be Benjamin Charles Germain Lee, assistant professor at the University of Washington Information School, who will discuss AI in libraries. A detailed conference agenda will be available later.
The FDL Conference is an opportunity to meet government document librarians. The event is the largest annual virtual gathering of FDLP depository librarians in the country. Sessions are eligible for LEUs for Indiana Library staff. Collaborative, informative and interactive sessions will be presented during the conference. Adaptive books program coming to Goshen Public Library |
Caregivers and educators are invited to join author Rita Angelini on Wednesday, July 8, at the Goshen Public Library to learn about her adaptive books project, Leap Into Literacy.
In 2004, Jodi Miller and Angelini - two mothers with special needs children - searched for books that their children could enjoy. Finding little that was suitable, they assembled their first adaptive book.
Leap Into Literacy is an innovative program that transforms children’s books into accessible, interactive reading experiences for special needs children and early readers. During the one-hour program, Angelini will demonstrate the creation of an adaptive book and provide the instructions for anyone who is interested in making them at home.
This program is free, open to the public and will take place in the Goshen Public Library Auditorium at 6 p.m. The Goshen Public Library is located at 601 S. 5th St. in Goshen. |
