Upcoming workshops and important dates |
| Welcome to the Government Information Minute. Every other week, government information librarians at the Indiana State Library cover current resources on governmental data at the state, national and international levels, all to keep the public well-informed. Follow the Indiana State Data Center on
Facebook and Twitter and feel free to leave comments and suggestions. |
This June is the 30th anniversary of National Safety Month
, sponsored by the National Safety Council. The month is dedicated to keeping people safe in the workplace. Since 1996, National Safety Month has offered free resources to help prevent injuries and save lives. Participants who register for free resources will receive the following: a campaign poster and participant guide, a weekly fact sheet, five-minute safety talks, weekly curated videos, articles and research, a “Go Green for Safety” sign and a SafeAtWork pledge.
Weekly Safety Topics from the National Safety Council include “Moving Safety Forward,” “Staying Safe on the Roads,” “Promoting Holistic Worker Health” and “Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls.”
Additional resources on worker safety are produced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which is part of the U.S. Department of Labor. The OSHA administrator is the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health, who reports to the Secretary of Labor - a member of the President’s Cabinet. The
OSHA poster page
explains that employers must display a free, downloadable poster informing workers of their safety and health rights. On the state level, INSafe, part of the Indiana Department of Labor, partners with employers and workers to promote workplace safety across Indiana. Additional information is available on the INSafe webpage. |
